Additional Updates

6900 West Lake Drive Property

The Town won a grant  from Solid Waste Authority (SWA) to demolish the house at 6900 West Lake Drive. The approved bidder is The BG Group, LLC. Onecall has marked the utilities on site and permits have been pulled. The BG Group, LLC will begin demolition on January 31st. The neighbors have been notified of the pending demolition. Several realtors have asked about the property. It seems like there is interest in this property.

RFP for LCS Wastewater Service Area

Staff believes it is in the best interest  of the Town to follow the state statute for consultant selection and choose an engineering team for the septic-to-sewer design project. As such, we prepared a Request for Proposals (RFP). The RFP was advertised in the Palm Beach Post on January 17th. We are looking for a full-service team that can provide design services; bid, award and construction oversight assistance; and help with the assessment process and with a rate study for the new commodity rates. The Town's Evaluation Committee will include Town staff, Matt Hammond (Utility Director in Tequesta) and a member of the OIG's office. The Committee will review the submitted RFPs, short-list to three teams, hold interviews, and make a recommendation to the Town Council. The goal is to have a recommendation for action at the April Town Council Meeting. Eight-firms have expressed an interest in the RFP. Staff is preparing evaluation sheets and interview questions. RFP submittals are due in Town Hall at 3:00 P.M. on February 14th. A short-list of three will be created on March 5th.

Legislation Update

Local Bill on Annexation  HB753- We have been asked by the first committee of reference staff for our Annexation Bill HB753 to provide: 1) a letter from Palm Beach County stating they will not support creating an MSTU for this area, and 2) a poll of the affected homes stating their desire to not be annexed into Lake Clarke Shores. We were given two weeks to get this work done. County Administrator, Verdenia Baker, said she needed guidance from her Board. The Board stated the County would NOT support an MSTU. We received the letter yesterday from Palm Beach County which was immediately forwarded to Rep. Roth, Rep. Silvers, Rep. Plakon and Eric Miller. Rob Long with Door-to-Door has been canvassing the Edgewater Park area for the last 10 days to ask about annexation. He will finalize his efforts this weekend. Preliminary data show 89% of the first 49 homes polled would not support annexation. There are 89 homes in the area.

Special Appropriation HB2211 - We have been told the bill did not make it out of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee. Rep. Silvers says it is not dead yet and is working to get it added.
