What is behind the resignations?

All three council members mentioned Florida Form 6 as a contributing factor to their decision to step down. Beginning in 2024, a new Florida law requires council members to complete the state's Form 6 financial disclosure form.

The form requires significantly more disclosure than previous forms completed by local elected officials, including listing all investments, accounts and assets over $1,000 as well as disclosing clients in their private businesses. All three expressed privacy concerns, as well as possible ethical conflicts if they revealed confidential client information.

The new Florida law is responsible for mass resignations of public officials across the state.
