Code Enforcement Board
The Code Enforcement Board hear cases of respondents who allegedly failed to comply with the Town Code of Ordinances. Cases typically go through three hearings on subsequent months.
During the first hearing, the Board will decide whether the respondent is in violation of the Code provisions. The Board may impose a fine at that time or may give the respondent more time to comply. During the second hearing, the Board may impose a fine if the respondent remains in violation. During the third hearing, the Board may impose a lien if the respondent remains in violation and a fine was previously imposed. If the Board finds the respondent in compliance, the respondent may ask the Board for a fine reduction as long as the lien has not been recorded. If the respondent fails to pay the fine within the Board’s prescribed timeframe, a lien will be recorded. Once the lien is recorded, the respondent will have to contact the Town’s collection agency to request a fine reduction.
